the vehicle graveyards

Check out this link for a fascinating look at where vehicles go when they “die”. Make sure you check out the satellite shot of the planes, it’s amazing.

I’m struck by two things when I look at these pictures. First, I’m impressed with the ingenuity of man to produces these vehicles. Second, I’m shocked by the waste and uselessness of these machines. At one point, they had purpose and meaning but at some point, through age or performance, they lost their value and usefulness.

Isn’t this how it is with people sometimes? We start with focus and direction. We’re effective in our pursuits and then time goes by. We refuse to change and adapt to culture and we end up living in a “graveyard” with a bunch of other irrelevant, meaningless vessels.

God help me to never resign myself to a field of dead souls, but keep me alive and give me purpose.

boy on a plane

The Russian News and Information Agency has reported (article here) that a boy somehow climbed onto the wing of a plane and hung on for a two hour flight to Moscow. He suffered from frostbite and doctors are surprised that he survived. Apparently this was all because of a domestic dispute and he was running away from home.

What part of “I think I’ll try to hold on to the wing of the plane” is EVER a good idea?

shiver me timbers

I came across this several days ago and I forgot to post it until today. It looks real, but who knows? Either way, it’s a great idea for a license plate.

Wikipedia has an article about the phrase, “Shiver me timbers.”

this one’s for the jr. highers…

I’m definitely not a Tom Cruise fan. While I’ll admit that Top Gun will always be a classic movie for me, I haven’t watched any of “Mr. Crazy’s” new movies since he lost his mind on the Opera show. Maybe that’s why the article I found here is so funny–he just can’t get away from bizarre behavior (even if it’s not him this time).

Apparently, Tom was on the set of a new movie about WWII and anti-Nazi heroes when he asked for a minute of silence to honor their memory. Nice gesture, right? Well apparently, someone was a bit “gassy” and let one rip right in the middle of it.

“Tom is furious” said the source.

Why do I find this funny? Apparently I need to grow up.
