habits – tithing commitment

Tonight we covered the 5th habit in our series (Tithing Commitment). This is one of those fun issues that people can get all worked up over. It’s too bad that money can have such a strong hold on us.

I believe that regular giving is a constant exercise in letting go and acknowledging who is really in charge of things. Tithing, giving to missions and to charity remind me that what I have is on loan. The “stuff” I collect really isn’t mine. I believe the more loosely we hold on to the things of this world, to more in tune we are with who God is and what He wants for us. God is defined (in part) by sacrifice. This is shown to us through the death of His Son on the cross. If he can give so much, what can I give in return?
