who do i love
I make sure everyday to tell my boys that I love them. A while back, I began to ask Parker, “Who does daddy love?” Sometimes I’d tell him that I forgot and I needed his help. Other times I’d just ask the question.
After a while, Parker began to respond to this differently (usually based on mood). Sometimes he’d answer, “Mommy”, “Kent” or even “nobody”. After some laughing and insisting on my part, he would give in a say “Parker!”
A few days ago we went through this process and after he answered, he said “Daddy I need your help.”
I figured he needed help with a toy or something so I asked him what he needed.
“Who does Parker love?” he asked.
When I said I didn’t know he said, “Yes you do! He wears glasses, and goes to work…”
“Daddy?” I said.
“Yeah! I love you too, daddy!”
I took the day off today because Bethany had to help out at Parker’s school. I had a busy weekend with our Speed the Light services, so I it was a good day to recover from the crazy schedule I put in over the weekend.
Actually, life has been pretty hectic in the past few weeks. I know that may seem trite to say (because everyone’s busy) but as I spent time with the family today, I realized that it’s been awhile since that last occurred with any quality.
In the morning I played with Kent and listened to him squeal as I tickled him. It’s amazing to see how smart he’s getting. Tonight he used a real fork to spear his food and eat it. He’s actually quite good at it now.
Parker played in the leaves as I used my new leaf blower to move them to the street for pickup. He would in front of me with various toys and balls to see how the blower would affect each one. Every once in a while, I’d give him a quick blast of air to the face which would send him off laughing to find another item to test.
Bethany made pork chops tonight that were amazing. I’m lucky to have a wonderful wife who laughs at my lame jokes.
Anyway, I’m not usually that personal on here, but it’s was a great day and I thought I’d share.
fix it man
Today Parker was playing with his plastic army men with he came to me and showed me that one of them was broken. The base/feet area had broken off from the rest of the body. “Fix it, daddy!”, he said.
Fix it?
I explained to him that it was broken and that I wasn’t able to fix it. After all how am I supposed to melt plastic or re-mold it?
Parker was a bit upset by this and disappeared upstairs for a few minutes.
He came back down with a “fixed” army man. He found sticky tack that I didn’t know about, pulled off two small pieces (one for each leg) and stuck the body back onto the base. Not perfect, but definitely fixed for his use.
It’s funny how complex I make things and how simple that same situation is to a child.
