I saw this article last week and I figured since yesterday’s post was a bit gross, I might as well just write about this one today and get it out of the way.
See the picture on the left? Yeah, that’s a clump of hair weighing 10 pounds that was removed from a woman’s stomach. She was having problems with swelling in her abdomen and vomiting after eating and weight loss.
Ya think?
Apparently she had a “condition” (as described by the article) call trichophagia which has to do with eating your hair.
Nasty.
The surgery was performed at Rush University Medical Center here in Chicago (what if this lady is one of my neighbors!?). Once the hairball was removed, her appetite came back, the pain and swelling went away, and she regained the weight she had lost.
I don’t usually cover these kinds of issues, but with Christmas just around the corner, I know that a lot of people are looking for that one perfect gift. Well, look no further. These are real plush toys that you can buy for that special someone. Click on the picture for a larger version.

But that’s not all. Check out the following video for a Japanese kids show. The toys have no relationship to the show, except for theme. All I can say is that this is just messed up.

Imagination is a powerful force. This is evident every time you see a child hiding from monsters under his blanket or whenever a new scientific breakthrough occurs. Imagination can propel us into great success and experience, or it can pin us down in fear and doubt. Though imagination can have these effects on us, I think most people avoid the issue and simply settle for an unimaginative life. We go throughout our day and get stuck in the regular ebb and flow of existence. Dreaming big and imagining a greater future often get pushed to the side by rationalism and practicality. Ephesians 3:20 says, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us….”
Followers of Jesus have a unique promise here, according to Paul. God is able to do infinitely above all we can even think to ask Him. As a child of God, with the fullness of Christ in us (Ephesians 3:19), we are called to His purposes, not our own.
It’s time we began to imagine what God can and will accomplish with us.
What would it be like if I gave myself completely over to Jesus? What would it be like if I loved God more than myself? What would it be like if I lived out my faith in my school or workplace? What would it be like if I stopped giving in to the flesh and instead pursued holiness?
Take time to imagine what God can do through you. Make yourself available and wait to see how God does more than you could have ever imagined.
According to their website, the Portland Winter Hawks host a “Teddy Bear Toss” once a season. After their first goal, fans toss out teddy bears onto the ice to give to kids in local hospitals and other children in times of crisis. On November 24, 2007 fans broke the old record of 15,540 and donated 20,372 stuffed animals.
What a great idea and what a great response. Why doesn’t the church do more of this?
