too many blogs

Over the last several months, I’ve gone from reading one or two blogs a day, to a dozen or so. It was getting out of control for me. I’d spend the better part of my evening trying to keep up with everyone’s postings.

That’s when I discovered a beautiful technology called RSS. I’m not going to get into it too much here because if you really care to learn about it, all you need to do is google it. An RSS document is called a “feed”. For instance, you can see the feed for my blog by scrolling to the bottom of this page and clicking on “Subscribe to: Posts (Atom)”. A rather dull looking page comes up with recent posts that I’ve made.

So what I did is go to Google Reader and create and account (if you have a gmail account you can use that). Then, as I visited blogs and other news sites that I regularly check out, I clicked on the RSS Feed buttons or links and subscribed to them with Google Reader. Now, whenever I want to see who has posted something, I go to one place: When a new post is made on any of the blogs I’m subscribed to, I can easily see it from the reader.

I realize that some of you are already aware of how to do this, but I also know that there are several people who visit my blog who may not know about it. I love using the reader because it puts everything neatly into one place for me.

One more note. There are several different readers that you can use. I use a ton of google’s tools, so that’s why I recommend it.
