animal rights

I’m no lover of animals, but they do have rights.

meetings

Meetings are usually boring. Talk, talk talk. No real solutions.

Tonight, however, I met with our youth leaders about our plans for Home Groups in the Fall. I really appreciate our team. They got together at the last minute (right after work) and spent 2 1/2 hours working through some difficult decisions. But in the end, we’ve come up with a plan for how to proceed. We got a lot accomplished.

I’m grateful for a group of people who love students and commit so much of their personal time to see those students connect to God.

I could use more meetings like this.

I came across this today. Hilarious. It’s a mix of Star Wars and the Office.

There’s no language, but without giving it away, it’s definitely not for kids at the end. Consider yourself warned.

today

I had one of those “days off” where instead of relaxing I worked until around 8pm. I had an extensive “honey do” list in preparation for company tomorrow. It was exhausting, but very productive.

  • 9am – Cardinal Fitness to work out with dug.
  • 10:15am – First Whey Protein shake (why is the container so huge when its only about half full?)
  • 10:30am – Trim bushes (I love power tools)
  • 11:00am – Cut large branches off of bushes
  • 11:15am – realize that there are several branches on our trees that need cutting
  • 11:20am – cut off several large branches
  • 11:45am – scolded by Bethany for cutting down branches (apparently the cut limbs will be an eye sore tomorrow when company is here)
  • 11:50am – start cleaning up branches and put them on the east side of house
  • 12:15pm – Bethany returns home w/ Burger King
  • 12:16pm – Bethany “informs” me that branches must be moved to west side of house
  • 1:00pm – Done with lunch, inflate kiddie pool, slip ‘n slide, and tire on my car with new air compressor ($10 @ Ace)
  • 1:30pm – Start cleaning up trimmings and branches (Parker helps for 2 minutes and then goes off to play)
  • 2:15pm – Move branches to west side of house, ruin tarp in the process
  • 2:30pm – Trim the lawn with weed whacker (I love power tools)
  • 3:00pm – Mow lawn.
  • 4:00pm – Clean out garage with leaf blower (I love power tools)
  • 4:30pm – Hose down juice-stained wheelbarrow (thank you, Kent)
  • 5:00pm – put tools, toys, bikes, etc. away (thank you, Parker and Kent)
  • 5:15pm – head to church to pick up some items I forgot to bring home (thank you, Erik)
  • 6:00pm – leave church
  • 6:15pm – arrive at Best Buy to return battery charger
  • 6:20pm – sales associate says, “Just one minute, sir.”
  • 6:30pm – sales associate returns
  • 6:45pm – item not in stock, must exchange for a more expensive item (thank you, Best Buy)
  • 7:00pm – pick up a Tee from the Hongs (as in Tee Ball stand)
  • 7:15pm – go to dug’s to weigh items to sell on ebay (anybody need an electric guitar?)
  • 7:45pm – arrive at home
  • 8:00pm – eat dinner (frozen burrito from Aldi)

30

It’s official. I’m an old man.

I decided to stay home today to celebrate (mourn?) with the family. We had a nice lunch at Portillo’s and then I dominated in a family game of mini golf. Of course, mini golf with two kids under five is more challenging, especially around the 12th whole when Kent starts to lose interest.

Bethany took Parker to the dollar store yesterday for my gifts and he picked out two items. The first was a microphone. I guess he thought I could use it at church.

The second item was amazing. Cologne.

Now, this isn’t your everyday, run of the mill cologne. It’s….wait for it….”Navigator” by Dana.

From the back of the packaging:

“Navigator…an exotic scent that takes you far, far away – the adventure begins with the first splash. With spices and fragrant essences that radiate from all points of the globe, discover the mystique of this unexpected masculine scent.”

Wow.

Dana, I don’t know anything about you, but if this stuff smells half as good as that description, what is it doing at the Dollar General?

My wife put together several of my favorite things (Portillo’s lunch, Mountain Dew, Best Buy gift card) for my gift. I love her creativity and thoughtfulness.

Anyway, I’m grateful for all the texts and messages that I’ve gotten throughout the day. This is the first year I’ve gotten dozens of texts from friends and family throughout the day. It’s a very cool experience. It’s also the first birthday that I’m really starting to feel old.

At least I can look forward to more of that.

I’m rambling now (yet another sign of my age) so I’ll put this post to an end.
