Today Parker had his birthday party at McDonalds. Ironically, as I look at this picture, it seems so calm and “nice”. The reality is that for an hour and a half Parker and his friends terrorized a certain clown’s Playland. Within minutes, faces were red, hair was dripping with sweat and probably enough bacteria was spread around to destroy a small village.
I realized something about these indoor playlands today. There must be some law that requires them to be built in an echo chamber. Just about every substance in that room is made with the intention to reflect, and not absorb, the screams, cries and screeches of children’s voices. At one point, I left the room and entered in the dining area. It was eerily calm and quiet.
I also realized something about myself today. While my son was celebrating his 5th birthday, I was recognizing the fact that I’m a tired, cranky and deaf old man.
Parker got some great toys from his friends and (in typical dad duty) I got to help him assemble a few of them tonight. Tonight we put together a Lego car and I was so proud that he was able to follow the first couple steps of the instructions by himself. I’m proud of you, Parker! I’m glad you had a great party today. Even if that Playland smelled kind of funny….
