smelly birthday

parker-party-2

parker-bday-partyToday Parker had his birthday party at McDonalds. Ironically, as I look at this picture, it seems so calm and “nice”. The reality is that for an hour and a half Parker and his friends terrorized a certain clown’s Playland. Within minutes, faces were red, hair was dripping with sweat and probably enough bacteria was spread around to destroy a small village.

I realized something about these indoor playlands today. There must be some law that requires them to be built in an echo chamber. Just about every substance in that room is made with the intention to reflect, and not absorb, the screams, cries and screeches of children’s voices. At one point, I left the room and entered in the dining area. It was eerily calm and quiet.

I also realized something about myself today. While my son was celebrating his 5th birthday, I was recognizing the fact that I’m a tired, cranky and deaf old man.

Parker got some great toys from his friends and (in typical dad duty) I got to help him assemble a few of them tonight. Tonight we put together a Lego car and I was so proud that he was able to follow the first couple steps of the instructions by himself. I’m proud of you, Parker! I’m glad you had a great party today. Even if that Playland smelled kind of funny….

If you’re tired , cranky and deaf… Mike and I better hurry up and have kids… or maybe because you’re getting over the flu. Hope you’re feeling better… great to see you at retreat! Thanks again for letting us join! :)

I was grossed out as well when Parker asked to have his party here…but, I had no preparation, and no cleanup…my kind of party. You will be happy to know that I made both boys take off all their close, including their socks, and march immediately upstairs for a bath.

We had Mark’s 2nd bday @ a McD’s playland. I agree, they are filthy and nasty. But the kids have a total blast, and it’s nice to know you can walk away w/ the mess behind you. lol. All American bday party…..gotta do it at least once. lol.
