flags for a marine

A Marine from our town of Bethalto passed away on Christmas Eve from injuries sustained from an IED while he was on duty in Afghanistan. His funeral will be held at our church this week.

Yesterday, volunteers set up flags all along the road from the airport to our church. It’s a pretty amazing sight to see and it’s incredibly inspiring. The pictures below don’t really do it justice, but I wanted to capture a piece of it and share it here.

Part of what inspired me to do this is the fact that I’ve decided to take at least one picture a day and post it to my Flickr account. I’ve seen several posts from other people doing the same thing so I thought I’d join in. You can see all the pictures I’ve uploaded by visiting my “2011 – 365” set on Flickr.
