25 things about facebook

facebooklogo

A couple of my friends posted this on their blogs today and I just had to share it here. I’ve been meaning to come up with a similar list because I found the whole “25 things” list to be so annoying a few weeks ago when it was in its hayday.

Oh, and by the way, I don’t trust apps of facebook, so if you send me a request for something, I’m going to ignore it. It doesn’t matter what it is, I’m not going to accept it. I don’t care if it’s a meaningful cause or a really fun game. It’s nothing against you, it’s just that I don’t trust what that app will do with my personal information. Facebook collects an obscene amount of information from it’s users and I’m just not crazy about sharing that info with some guy who created a pirate app.

pardon our dust…

I’ve moved my blog over to WordPress, so please be patient with the rough look of the site. I’d like to think I’ll get to it in the next couple of days, but it’ll probably be next week before I get around to changing it.

I’ve been fairly busy the past couple of weeks. In fact tonight was the first night for a week and a half that Bethany, the boys and I were able to have a night together. It’s just been one thing after another. I realize most people are always “busy”, but this has by far been the most busy I’ve been in months.

This weekend we have our Winter Retreat. I’m looking forward to getting away and spending time with God and with students. It’s a highlight of the year for our youth ministry.

Anyway, thanks for your patience, my intention is to begin posting more regularly once life slows down a bit.

text updates

I recently created a twitter account for our youth ministry. I know I have some parents who read my blog and I wanted to let you all know about how you can get text updates about crew sent to your phone. You could go online, create an account and setup your phone. But why do that when there’s an easy way?

  1. Create a text message saying “follow thestonecrew” (minus the quotes) and send it to “40404″ (again, without the quotes).
  2. You’ll receive a response asking who you are. Reply to this message with your name.

That’s it! You’re now signed up to receive text messages whenever thestonecrew posts to twitter. These updates will include upcoming events and info about current events (like, “we made it here safe” “stopping for lunch”, etc.).

If you want to manage your account or more fully utilize twitter, go online to twitter.com and click on the link for “Already using Twitter from your phone?”. It will guide you through the setup process.

I should add that your cell provider will charge for these texts, unless you have some sort of text package included with your account. So what do you do if you don’t have a text messaging plan or don’t want to get updates via cell phone? You can always visit www.twitter.com/thestonecrew to see these updates online.

I posted this video a while back, but here’s a description of how twitter works.
