I’ve decided to allow myself to rant a bit on my blog. For now, this will only occur on Tuesdays. And that’s only because “traffic tuesday” seems a little catchy to me.

Courtesy is important to me. There’s something to be said about not being so self-absorbed that we are oblivious to the people around us. But then again, it happens all the time. I’m referring to the wonderful experience of being the second (or sometimes third) person in line at a stoplight, and the car(s) in front of you refuse to move up a few feet to allow you to make a right handed turn.

It’s even worse when the person looks at you in their rear view mirror and still refuses to budge. I’m not sure what motivates these people. Are they self-appointed “right turn police”? Do they just want to exert their control over you? Do they care?

There are several ways you can “deal” with these types:

1. The double honk – This technique is the most common, yet most misunderstood (nobody likes being honked at). The key to perfecting this skill is in the length and lightness of the honks themselves. We’re going for a quick, light double tab. The resulting sound should say, “Excuse me sir, I’m here. Please move.” Unfortunately, it usually comes out a bit more harsh.
2. The slow creep – for some reason I believe that if I keep moving forward, I can control things. That’s why when I’m waiting at a red light, I’ll roll my car forward an inch or so at a time. This makes the light change faster (at least it does in my mind). Anyway, this technique is more subtle than the honk and tries to get the offender’s attention by threatening to rear-end them.
3. The Napoleon Dynamite – “Gosh…” This is the most subtle of the methods and it doesn’t involve the car in any way. You simply make wild hand motions and facial expressions while talking to yourself with the intention of showing your frustration so that the person in front of you will “get a clue”. Unfortunately, this technique usually back fires because it’s rarely noticed and even when it is, the hand motions and facial expressions tend to paralyze them with fear.

Tomorrow we leave for War Week with several students from crew. We be ministering in Detroit for the next several days doing cleanup in the community and block parties for the kids. Thanks to my good friend Drew (and employee at the local theater) I was able to see the new Batman movie for only one dollar tonight. I’ll try to keep my comment vague so as not to spoil it for anyone.

The Dark Knight definitely does a great job picking up the themes and moods from Batman Begins. In fact I think it even takes it a step further. This is a dark film. Much of this mood is set by Heath Ledger’s performance of the Joker. I was thoroughly impressed. Joker is absolutely demented, evil and cunning.

My only complaint is the length. Some movies just stretch into eternity and unnecessarily lengthen the narrative (I’m looking at you, the end of Return of the King). But that’s not the case with the Dark Knight. The story is what makes the movie long. So one the one hand, I appreciate the complexity and depth of the story, but on the other hand, it seemed like it didn’t have to be that way. In the end, it’s pretty minor as the movie is a great experience throughout.

It’s been a full week since I last posted. Things have been a bit crazy around here. Yesterday I performed the wedding ceremony for my sister-in-law, Janna. Weddings are wonderful events, but they definitely take a lot out of you.

In addition to this, Kent has been sick. Nasty sick. But I won’t give you the details.

About two and a half weeks ago, I got my first Macbook. I say first, because after just a few days of using it, I love it. Setting up my email was ridiculously easy. On my PC, I have to go into a settings menu and figure POP and SMTP settings as well as encryption info. Not on the mac. It already knew my email address because of the Apple ID I have through iTunes. I simply put in my gmail password and voila. It did the rest for me.

Things I love about my Macbook so far:

• Ease of setup
• Runs fast (we’ll see how it keeps up over time)
• Built in webcam
• iLife software (made Janna’s wedding video w/iMovie)
• “Wakes” from Sleep Mode in seconds
• iTunes actually opens
• Magnetic power adapter
• Built in Bluetooth (I can easily transfer files from my cell)

Of course, I wouldn’t be a Mac user if I didn’t make use of Photobooth. So here are some of my favorites pics from our first time couple times playing with it.
